The biblical parallels and religious motifs that saturate Ronan and Adam’s arc are my favorite thing. We have a character who can essentially remake his world in his image (his dreams), and we have a character named Adam (the first man). Ronan is often compared to a god, especially by Adam (think the church scene in BLLB when they’re plotting against Greenmantle). He’s all kinds of flaming sword and dreaming about light and Cain and Able Genesis. And Adam is bound to Cabeswater, and if we’re running with the Christian imagery here, Cabeswater is like Ronan’s version of Eden. Adam is commanded to tend to Cabeswater like Adam was to Eden. And then, in TRK, Ronan and Adam sacrifice what’s left of Cabeswater for Gansey (who, above almost everything, values knowledge… tree of knowledge of good and evil, hi) and Adam is cast out of the garden. Ronan’s faith, I think, is as integral to his character as dreaming is, and I love how it’s woven into to fabric of the story. I’m excited for more in the dreamer trilogy.
